Abstract

The relevance of the topic is that the collapse of the USSR led to the politicization of the identity of divided peoples, including the Russian people. The subject of the study is the identity and political orientations of the Russian population in the South and East of Ukraine. The methodology of the work is social constructivism. The aim of the work is to determine the trends in the development of identity and political orientations of Russians in the South and East of Ukraine in 1992—2014. Conclusions are drawn about the complex identity of Russians, in which national-state, ethnic, linguistic, and historical self-consciousness were intertwined. The Russian population of the South and East of Ukraine showed a pronounced ethnic and linguistic identity that influenced political orientations. Scope of the results: foreign policy, identity policy of the Russian Federation.
