Abstract

The article describes such historical sources as communications, reports, and analytical notes on the situation in Soviet Russia prepared by the intelligence agencies of the Republic of Poland in the 1920s and 1930s. These are documents of the Second Department of Polish General Staff, stored in the Central Military Archive in Warsaw, as well as materials of the Polish State Police, the Border Protection Corps, and Polish diplomatic and trade missions deposited in the same Fund. All these agencies collected a wide variety of information about the situation in Soviet Russia, including the religious situation. Therefore, in this archive it is possible to find, among other things, information about the life of the Catholic clergy and laity. First of all, we are talking about information about the anti-religious policies of the Soviet government, about repressions against Catholic priests and church closures, but also information about religious practices and the level of religiosity of the Catholic population. The author identifies and describes materials on the situation of the Catholic Church in the USSR for the period from 1922 to 1934.
