Abstract

The article analyzes the relationship between the innovative style of the architecture of the first Soviet decade and the political and philosophical ideas formulated by Alexander A. Bogdanov in his work “Tektology” and later developed by like-minded authors, including the architect and theorist of projecting Alexander V. Rosenberg. It is assumed that the general nature of the “rationalization” of all social life, justified by Max Weber within the framework of “understanding sociology”, had its manifestations in architecture that embodied, besides purely practical, political and philosophical meanings. This is confirmed by examples of both European modernist projects of the first decades of the 20th century (in particular, executed in the spirit of “functionalism” by Le Corbusier) and Soviet images of the new city in the style of constructivism: on the one hand, inheriting the same principles of rationalism, and on the other, addressing the motives of social utopia.
