Abstract

On the basis of the division of labor history as a history of one of the human activity’s type and the history of ideas about labor, the paper is considered the work of an apprentice, which is rarely considered by the specialists, not because it has not been the work, but because it has not always considered as the work. Based on the Parisian craft regulations of the 13th century (“Book of Crafts”) the paper shows the appraisal of an apprentice’s qualified labour and the criteria determined the possibility of paying for his labor. The apprentices were the members of their master’s family and they shared the housework with his family, but their participation in the housework was also the subject of corporate attention, because of the value of their participation in the productive work.
