Abstract

The history of daily life as an important trend in Russian historiography began to develop at the turn of the 20th — 21st centuries. Memorial plaques as the most democratic and common commemorative practice in the sociocultural space of the cities, serve as peculiar sources of this historical study and markers of daily life discourse. As exemplified in personalized, event-related and annotative memorial plaques installed in different settlements in various Russian regions, the authors identify the daily life manifestations most often demonstrated in the memorial signs and show the possibilities of its representation through memorial plaques dedicated to prominent personalities. A special group of memorial plaques, according to the authors, are those that preserve the memory of people’s daily life in extreme conditions, for example, in those of wartime.
