Abstract

The article is aimed at presentation and analysis of archive materials concerning two unrealized projects of cooperation of the Russian Archaeological Institute in Constantinople with the French byzantinists. The first one supposed a systematic study and edition of the written sources and art treasures of Mt. Athos and should have been carried through under a joint Russian-French team under the direction of Th. I. Uspenskii (with participation of D. Ainalov, A. Papadopoulo-Kerameus, G. Millet and others). The second project aimed at collecting and edition of written sources and artefacts concerning St. Nicolas of Myra. The French byzantinist Louis Petit and the librarian of St. Panteleimon monastery at Mt. Athos Fr. Mathew took part in it. Apart of the two main subjects, the archive materials unveil a lot of details of the biographies and activities of the scholars, such as P. Sevastianov, G. Millet, and others. The text of the joint Russian-French project is published in the addenda to the article.
