Abstract

The article deals with two main aspects of the struggle of special services in the Spanish Civil War. First, it is an internal struggle, especially the activities of the state security of the Second Spanish Republic. The national historiography does not cover this aspect, however at the same time, it was precisely the blunders of the leadership of the Republic in organizing the activities of the secret police that led to such dire consequences. Secondly, the intervention of foreign intelligence services in the civil conflict in Spain, and above all — the Abwehr, military intelligence and counterintelligence of the Wehrmacht, is considered. Despite the general idea of the Nazi intervention in this struggle there is not enough research in the Russian-language literature, on the basis of which one can get an exhaustive answer to this question, as shown by the historiographical research conducted in the article.
