Abstract
The article reveals the peculiarities of teaching the Kazakh population of Orenburg from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of the 1930s. The author summarizes that at the pre-revolutionary stage the traditions of the Muslim population were taken into consideration and separate schools and courses were opened to teach the male and female Kazakh population. A large contribution was made by public cultural and educational organizations and local governments. There were recommendations of the organization of mobile schools during the learning of the Kazakh population in the years of Soviet Union. In 1929 there was the change of the Arabic script into the Latin alphabet for Muslim people, which made the struggle against illiteracy much more difficult. A large contribution in education was made by voluntary societies, especially by “the Down with Illiteracy” society.
