Abstract
Transfer of the public policy to a symbolic space, to the field of memory politics is accompanied by the manifestation of fundamentally new phenomena questioning the applicability of the methodological instruments previously used to study the representations of the past. The article analyses the case of installation and dismantling of the memorial plaque to K. G. E. Mannerheim in St. Petersburg and discusses theoretical metaphors and concepts for testing the usability of the new research constructions that appeared during the last decade to study the registers of public speech and public silence.
