Abstract
This article is devoted to the history of the Orenburg region in the conditions of post-reform modernization. It is told about the preparation of the peasant reform of 1861 in the Orenburg region, the role in its conduct of Orenburg governor E. I. Baranovsky. The issue of changing the administrative structure of the Orenburg region in connection with the promotion of the empire to the south is considered. The role of the governor N. A. Kryzhanovsky in the history of reforming and reorganizing the region is analyzed. Characteristics of the implementation of the “Great Reforms” in the Orenburg region are given. It is told about philanthropists and philanthropists.
