Abstract
This Chapter lists the most important sites of the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic Periods, supplying general characteristics of these periods. The problem of the initial peopling of the Crimean Peninsula by the ancestors of modern humankind is addressed. The evolution of stone tools and ways of their use is traced. The transition from foraging to production economies is described. The Bronze Age cultures, such as the Kemi-Oba, the Catacomb Grave, the Timber Grave, the Sabatinovka, the Belozerskii Firth ones, are characterised. The transition of the Bronze Age tribes to mobile pastoralism is documented.
