Abstract
This article analyzes the interest of the Founding Father and President of the USA Thomas Jefferson (1743—1826) in exploration of the North Pacific in the late 18th — early 19th centuries. This interest was not only connected with enhancing scientific knowledge, but with Americans’ geopolitics, commerce and economics in this region, such as trade with the Russian-American Company, entry into the Chinese market, territorial expansion towards the West, and the wish to strengthen the strategic positions of the new actor — the United States — in this region which was actively explored and settled over a long period by the great European Powers, primarily by Spain, Russia, Great Britain and somewhat by France
