Abstract
The article analyzes a piece of Babylonian Chronicle P (BM 92701) telling about campaigns of Kurigalzu II (late XIV c. BC) in the mountainous East (Zagros and Elam). The author comes to the conclusion that the text deliberately proposes an unique model of “our own” conqueror's victory over defeated and subdued “aliens” as a specific type of reconciliation, where the defeated opponents are recognized to be valiant people who recognize “our side” / “our” king to be even more valiant and therefore submit to him in dignified way, nearly by their own will, guided not by fear, but by impression of his virtues got by them during their own struggle with him. The winning "our" side respects them in its own turn and is depicted not as conquerors imposing their will on vanquished and terrorized enemies but as ones accepting from some brave ex-opponents their friendship and service which they are now ready to give due to their decision of a kind that does not cast a shadow on their bravery. They are not so much destroyed and despised foes as worthy opponents who have made a choice in “our” favor to become a part of “our” side.
