Abstract
The author makes a short overview of four memoirs, written by German soldiers and junior officers, who had served in the Grande Armée of Napoleon in 1812. These memoirs are very interesting and informative, but they still have been poorly analyzed as historical source. Many of them offer specific view of their authors on the war in Russia as well as on Russia itself and on the Russians, and represent a German image of this war, which differs from the French one due to some differences between those nations’ mindsets, values and cultures.
