Abstract
The article describes the features of the goals of Hitler's command in the war against the Soviet Union, its main goal — not just the occupation of the country, and its dismemberment and destruction of the Russian people as a subject, its conversion into slaves serving German colonists. To this end, the German High Command has developed a plan for the defeat of the Soviet armed forces (the plan “Barbarossa”), as well as a number of directives for the destruction of the Soviet state, party and civil society activists. The article deals with the question of availability and reasons for the Red Army defeats of the first months of fighting, as well as emergency measures of the Soviet leadership to mobilize the country.
