Abstract
The article deals with the issues of the post-war reconstruction of the Lithuanian SSR`s national economy. The war-torn republic suffered a shortage of skilled manpower. The republic leaderhip attempts to resolve the shortage of manpower problem by organized recruitment, labor mobilization didn`t yield tangible results. Appeal to the Centre for assistance in supplying a significant amount of professionals and workers to Lithuania found response, but in the country devastated by war it was still not enough. One of the ways out of this situation was the use of German POWs labour. The research uses the modern historiography data and documents from the archives of the Russian Federation and Lithuania.
