Abstract
This article studies methods and literary devices, used by French authors to describe their travels to Brazil. Novelization of such testimonies required the choice between one or another discursive strategies. It entailed different solutions of traditional tasks of travel literature (specification of a narrative’s structure; attention to its coherence; emphasizing of the importance of a personal experience; bolstering with some other weighty opinions) through the example of the exotic Brazilian realities. The article examines how French authors used various figures of speech to transfer their experience into a literary masterpiece, how they attracted reader’s attention and how they polemized with rival authors.
