Abstract
The end of the First World War was marked by a substantial rearrangement of the mechanism of the colonial policy of Great Britain, due to complex factors. Already in the early postwar years, the British leadership was forced to realize clearly the discrepancy of previous methods for solving the problems of colonial and Victorian patterns of thinking and new historical realities. In practice, the intellectual pursuits of British political elite are reflected in the very complex and contradictory process of administrative and political reforms that covers different regions of the empire. The nature and direction in policy of changes in regard to metropolitan colonial administration, as well as relations with the dominions and protectorates, which took place at the turn of the 1910 – 1920-ies. seems us extremely significant historical problem, a study which will allow a deeper understanding of the origins of the phenomenon of Western neo-colonialism of the second half of XX - early XXI centuries.
