Abstract
This article examines the problem of European penetration into the New World during the early Modern period on the example of French presence in Brazil in XVIth – early XVIIth centuries. It had some specific characteristics and differences from the policy of the Portuguese crown towards its American possessions. The author raises the question of influence of this presence on the so-called “invention of America after its discovery”. It demonstrated once again the process of interaction between two worlds isolated in the past
