Abstract
Denominations of historical periods, phenomena and events are reflecting, on the one hand, their originality, on the other hand, their recurrence in different appearances. Periodization makes use of space images, such as adjectives “lower”, “high”, “middle”. But these definitions are relative and sometimes in different languages they have different, even contrary meaning. The concept of “Early Modern Times”, in fact coincident with the “long Middle Ages”, emerged as a result of forming of European ideas about cyclic and at the same time progressive evolution of the humanity.
