Abstract
Latin «Dissuasio Valerii ad Rufinum philosophum ne uxorem ducat» of a court writer of XII century Walter Map had a broad circulation as one of most popular works in misogynic and misogamous literature. Among others, Italian humanist L.B.Alberti made a translation of it in Italian c.1436. An analysis of the text of «Dissuasio» shows that its author concentrated his efforts not so much on the proof of women’s evil nature and inconveniences of marriage as on the demonstration of eloquence, playing with rhetoric techniques and entertainment of the reader with the help of examples derived from ancient writers. Genre properties, style, imitation of classics and circumstances of creation and circulation of «Dissuadio» permit to call its author a direct forerunner of Renaissance literature.
