Abstract
This paper addresses the question whether Aelfric’s perceptions of the Viking raids on England in the late 10th century can be traced in his “Lives of saints”. It focuses particularly on Aelfric’s interpretations of the stories of murdered kings Oswald and Edmund in the context of military and political situation in England as well as of the eschatological preoccupations of the end of the first millennium.
