Abstract
The author of the article analyses the orders (nakazy) which were sent from Moscow to the Great embassy of 1697-1698. The Great Embassy was sent by the Russian government to Europe, and the Tsar Peter I personally took part in it. The draft copies and originals of the orders are compared, which reveals several diplomatic forms regulating actions of ambassadorial mission in different countries. The author analyses some additional materials (books, lists – stateynye spiski, agreements) which were used to systemize data on contacts of Russia with European powers. The analysis of the new archival documents demonstrates the activities of the Russian diplomatic department for preparation of the largest diplomatic action at the end of the XVII century.
