Abstract
The article focuses on the adventurous life of Charles Frederick Henningsen, an author. He was called a “soldier of fortune” for his participation in various wars, movements and military expeditions both in Europe, where he was born, and on the other side of the Atlantic. He seems not to have seen any incompatibility in the support of the struggle for liberty in the Old World and the advocacy of the system of slavery in the United States. That thing, ultimately, to a large extent predetermined failure of most of the causes for which he had fought.
