Abstract
In the Chilean history of the XIX century the «Society of Equality» takes a special place. Being ideological consequence of the European 1848 revolution with its social romanticism, republican equalitarism and socialism, the «Society of Equality» marked the end of conservative and clerical regime in Chile, provoked active participation of the urban masses, first of all artisans and workers in the national politic. This society was the forerunner of the modern political parties in Chile. Its founders Francisco Bilbao and Santiago Arcos were outstanding representatives of the Latin American utopian socialism and liberalism.
