Abstract
In his article Doctor in History V.P.Zimonin puts the emphasis on the attempts of modern Japan to reconsider the Second World War results (especially the question on borders and belongings of islands of the Kuril ridge). The author makes a number of the important remarks about the general character of studying of the Second World War in modern historiography. He also estimates the role of the USSR as a factor of deterrence of Japan. He supports his conclusions by the analysis of American sources. He emphasizes the role of the USSR in the defeat of Japan by the American Naval Forces. Finally, the author comes to the conclusion that Soviet Union pursued the policy of association of victims and repulse of the aggression as in Europe , so in the East.
