The handbook is dedicated to the analysis of key processes and different aspects of the Cold War. It contains an overview of Russian, European and American historiography of the Cold War. In the handbook the following questions are examined: main stages of confrontation (alternate periods of tensions and détente) and related to it events in each hostile camp (crisisses, arms race); characteristics of difficult and controversial issues, ambiguous interpretation of certain aspects of the conflict and related controversies (who started the Cold War, when it started, whether Western bloc won a victory in it, etc.)

The second part of the handbook contains summarizing methodical tasks and plans of traditional and problematic lessons.
